Today in Paris, France - IMPRESSIONS FROM A MOST ELEGANT BOOK FAIR AND A GORGEOUS FUNDRAISING FOR UNESCO

Time to look back: While the early American ILAB Pop Up Book Fairs in Portland and Chicago have already started, the International Rare Book & Autograph Fair has closed its doors. Thousands of people took the opportunity of a free entry to the Grand Palais on UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day. In turn they made generous donations as most visitors on the ILAB Pop Up Book Fairs across the world.

3.45 pm, Paris, France - CERVANTES AT THE GRAND PALAIS

Today is a symbolic date for world literature. On this day in 1616 two of the world’s greatest men of literature died: William Shakespeare and Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra. Cervantes’ El ingenioso hidalgo don Quijote de la Mancha is considered one of the most influential works of literature. In fact, it is regarded as the first European novel, and its author is widely esteemed as the world's pre-eminent novelist. Cervantes and his literary figure Don Quixote have become immortal.

Inside the Grand Palais running concurrently with the International Rare Book & Autograph Fair, the French booksellers are celebrating Cervantes with an impressive exhibition. A selection of some of the rarest and most original documents from the personal collection of René Cluzel, a former member of SLAM, will honour the great Spanish author.

Today in Paris - The Salon International du Livre rare & de l’Autographe at the Grand Palais supports the UNESCO literacy projects!

23 April is not only UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day 2015, it is also the first day of the annual Salon International du Livre rare & de l’Autographe, held at one of the most elegant venues in Paris: the Grand Palais. SLAM, as organizer of the fair and member of ILAB, is proud to take part in the worldwide fundraising campaign to raise money for the schools in South Sudan.

That's why the Empty Bookcase Posters will be seen at the Grand Palais until Sunday. Visitors will be very welcome to join the worldwide efforts to support UNESCO's literacy projects!

The 20.000 visitors, collectors, researchers and booksellers on the Book Fair will be given the opportunity to contribute to this large-scale project during a major cultural event. Who better than the thousands of booklovers gathered under the Grand Palais glass roof at this April weekend could better support this important initiative? Promoting literacy and reading is a fundamental challenge.

The Salon International du Livre rare & de l’Autographe at the Grand Palais runs until Sunday 8 pm.
